It’s now 2022, and somehow the PlayStation 5 (PS5), which launched over a year ago in November 2020, is still hard to buy in the UK, both Online and in-store. Supply issues and a global chip shortage caused by the coronavirus pandemic have slowed production of Sony’s game console.
But if it’s your New Years resolution to finally get your hands on one, fear not, because the IndyBest team are here to help. December was the best month on record for restocking, with 53 drops taking place in Curries, Playstation direct, Game, BT and AO. Although the start of January was slow, we are only seeing declines at EE, AO and small independent retailers like Ebuyer and The game collection, we expect replenishments to start accelerating this week as we move through the month. BT was the first retailer to restock this week.
Our liveblog is here to give you the latest information on restocking from all major UK retailers, both online and in store, as well as providing details on release rumors, as well as the latest games and accessories. PS5 to buy. Keep scrolling for the latest information.

Can you get a VPN on the PS5?
Although Sony does not allow any VPN apps like NordVPN Where ExpressVPN Downloadable from PlayStation Store (VPNs aren’t supported on the platform at all), there’s always a way to use a VPN on the PS5 if you want to stream geo-restricted content.
We recommend that you get a VPN with Smart DNS capability. This is a service provided by a number of VPN companies, including NordVPN, allowing you to spoof your location on devices that do not support VPN. You can read our roundup of the best VPNs for more information.

Should Currys restock the PS5?
Curries had plenty of PS5 restockings until December – no less than eight, according to our records – but everything has been quiet since then. Currys is one of a number of retailers that have brought the products on the line in the run-up to Christmas, but the December 28 restocking was the last.
It’s almost mid-January now, with no signs of returning consoles in stock at Currys. Having said that, they tend to show up unexpectedly, so hopefully things will improve soon.

Can you buy a PS5 on the main street?
That said, these consoles are going on sale very quickly (and are disappearing again just as quickly). Game stores use their Twitter accounts to tweet about the stock PS5 (and Xbox Series X), and you can keep tabs on each account at a time with this twitter list.
Smyths Toys has a tool on their website to display PS5 stock in all of their stores. But, again, there aren’t any available at the time of writing. Keep refreshing this page and crossing your fingers …

What is the difference between the two models of PS5?
Sony sells two versions of the PS5. These are known as disc publishing and digital publishing. They have the same performance, design and technical specifications, but the digital edition does not have a disc drive. This means that the games can only be played by downloading them, and there is obviously no way to play DVDs or Blu-ray movies.
The digital edition is also cheaper, at £ 359.99 compared to £ 449.99 for the disc edition.

Can you buy a PS5 directly from Sony?
Sony launched its Playstation direct online store in the UK towards the end of 2021. We saw five console restockings in November, followed by four in December, with the last occurring about a week before Christmas. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any consoles since. The PS Direct website says both versions of the PS5 are out of stock, with no indication of when more will arrive.

Can you buy a PS5 from EE?
In a way, yes. But not now.
Yeah, EE is yet another no-stock PS5 retailer to share at the moment. The network last had consoles available on January 5 and 6, making it one of the few places to have had a PS5 restock in 2022. Instead of selling the consoles the usual way, EE offers the PS5 to customers by adding it to their monthly bill and spreading the cost over two years.
